Further shows:

Mozart started composing in 1781 at Joseph II’s request. The writer of the libretto was Gottlob Stephanie. The story is carefully written, it is performable as opposed to the sketchy and sometimes inconsistent stories of the Italian operas, which were only to connect duets and trios.
The heroine is called Constanza just like Mozart’s wife. The opera is about her struggle for freedom and happiness, which reminds us a bit to Mozart and her Constanza’s life. Constanza’s parents didn’t want her to marry Mozart, the propertiless musician with uncertain future. Mozart’s father was also against the marriage. He thought founding a family would put an end to his son’s career.
The opera was ready in 1782, it was first performed on 16 July at the Burg Theatre. It wasn’t an overall success. There were admirers and an angry crowd with abusive opinions. Experts accepted the values of the opera after Gluck’s overjoyed statement about it. It was performed in bigger towns of Europe after that. The Hungarian audience could first see it 100 years after the premiere in Vienna.
